Seeds of Innovation

Companies from the traditional industry are invited to participate in a groundbreaking program to promote innovation through digital transformation and the implementation of advanced manufacturing technologies.

The process will be managed by a multidisciplinary professional team – a leading consultant, academic mentors from the fields of industrial engineering and management and computer science, and a combined team of students from the Technion’s Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Faculty of Computer Science.

The goal of the program is to improve the manufacturing process by implementing innovative methods, tools, and technologies, including digitization, automation, and robotics, in order to increase productivity and the company’s competitive edge.

Program stages:

The professional team will identify the technological gaps in the company’s current capabilities, identify potential development directions, identify failures in the manufacturing process, and develop an innovative technological solution to optimize processes.

Stage 1 – Preparation – Matching teams with factories.

Stage 2 – Mapping the factory from a technological and process perspective.

Stage 3 – Choosing the challenge/s – Identifying opportunities for digital transformation in the factory.

Stage 4 – Formulating and developing a solution in multidisciplinary teams (industrial engineering and management, computer science).

Stage 5 – Pilot implementation of the technological solution in the factory using relevant technologies.

Stage 6 – Presentation of the projects, including quantitative indicators to assess the increase in productivity as measured during and after implementation, including an implementation plan.

Criteria for submitting an application to participate in the program:

• An industrial company (registered in Israel) whose sales in the previous year did not exceed $70 million, and meets one of the following two conditions:

• Most of its income came from the industrial production of products in the mixed-traditional technology sectors (including food, beverages, textiles, leather, wood, paper, petroleum products, rubber, plastic, metal, building materials, machine maintenance).

• Most of its income came from the industrial production of products in the mixed-elite technology sectors (including chemistry, weapons and ammunition, electrical equipment, machine manufacturing) and also:

• The number of production workers is at least 30% of the total number of employees, but not less than 3 employees.

• The number of R&D employees is at most 10% of the total number of employees, but no more than 25 employees.
